The End is Nigh!!

by Darrell — Categories: UncategorizedNo Comments

Good morning, all you wonderful people!

We’re coming down to the end of our summer, and the end of our Unnamed series of talks. This week, I want you to ponder just this question: why did we spend the last eight weeks talking about all of these unnamed people? There are all kinds of people in the Bible whose names we know, so why talk about the ones whose names we don’t know?

Tonight marks our last night of summer youth group, so I hope you can all make it out, and this Saturday is our End-Of-Summer youth retreat at Irving Nature park (check out the event details on Facebook).

First of all, this is not Darrell, it’s Gerald here!  :)  So to keep it short and sweet, tomorrow’s scripture will be from Acts 23:12-24.  We did unexpected, unclean, unpolished, unworthy, underestimated, uncertain, unnoticed, and now we are doing UNRANKED.  It’s about fear.  With Zech still on the summer staff, we have lots to be afraid of, and lots to talk about tomorrow night!  LOL!  No, j/k, we will be talking about Paul, and also about what it means to fear God, and why if we fear God, we don’t need to fear anything else.  Zech is watching what I am typing, so until tomorrow night!

Unnoticed

Sorry to be a little later than usual with the followup this week, but here we go.

This week at Youth, we looked at the widow and her offering at the temple, and how Jesus made particular mention of her when no one else would even have noticed her presence, let alone the two small coins she gave. Like the pyramid in the picture above, the average person would have completely missed it.

This brought us to the point that we need to be willing to give of anything we have as an offering to God. This is all well and good to say, but what does it look like? If we, like that widow, give everything we have to God, then where does that leave us? Not only that, but how do we actually give everything to God?

The deeper idea here is that we need to live in such a way that everything we do goes through a ‘God test’ of sorts. We need always to be asking ourselves the question, “how can this (fill in absolutely anything you might do, buy, watch, etc.) be a way to serve God?”

That’s the way that we really start to live lives of worship – when everything that we do and are is an offering to God.

Now comes the point where I ask you guys to contribute your own ideas to this. What are some areas of your life that you can apply this principle to? Or, what are some areas of your life that you have applied this principle to, and seen God work through it?
